She seated us by a stone wall whose girth once deflected catapult assaults.
A shiver took hold of my back.
I ran my finger along a crevice.
“Drinks?” She said.

Ava arched her head back to see the last of the day pool oxblood into a sphere of ruby and emerald glass reamed between ornate, limestone spokes.
"Look at the fireplace! It looks like a small parking garage!" I said.
"And the chandeliers! I can see Errol Flynn swinging from them!” Ava marveled.

A woman positioned four guitars and seemed puzzled by their order. She swapped the first and third and left satisfied.
A stool and table were placed nearby and on it were placed a tankard and a handful of guitar picks.
A big, burly man sat behind the drums, his beard braided into silvery strands of bare conduit. He lightly rubbed emollient over the skins.
Other musicians appeared plugging in amplifiers, flipping switches and jockeying microphones.
A flurry of elongated chords strafed the air.
The keyboardist who’d been the sheep herder laughed uproariously at something the drummer said.
The lights dimmed on a full room. A dozen more crammed onto the tree-trunk of a mantle across the fireplace.
Doves cooed in pilings of moonlight high in the turrets.
Then a collective gasp to the most avuncular of lyrics as Van Morrison began, You can take all the tea in China...
